Cheerleader dance and cheerleading music

Cheerleader dance and cheerleading music are synonymous and one cannot be imagined without the other.  It is important to practice your dance routines as well as the individual moves and stunts involved in the routine; however, it is best when you practice to the music that the routine is choreographed for.

There are a lot of things you can do at home to keep yourself in shape, improve your flexibility and improve your cheerleading.  Avoid practicing your routine without the music as it can put you in the habit of not listening to the rhythm or using the music for keys to your moves.  Even a half a second off can make the entire routine look off.

There are plenty of things you can do to prepare yourself for the cheerleading dance without your music.  Working on and improving your flexibility is one of the most important things you can do without music; just be sure you stretch first to avoid injury.  Back bends, otherwise known as bridge bends can help improve your flexibility and keep you limber for all your moves.

Perfecting your cheerleading jumps is another important thing you can do without your routine music.  In order to be successful in those high jumps such as toe touches you not only must be flexible but you must have a very strong core.

Pilates is great for strengthening your core to allow you the better jumps.  Squat jumps will help you gain height in your jumps by strengthening your legs and core.  Start in a squat position and touch your fingertips to the floor.  Jump up bringing your arms up as if you were doing a jump with arms overhead.  As soon as you land go right back down into your starting squat position.  Repeat this exercise 20 to 30 times increasing as they become easier.

Practicing your tumbling moves are also important; however, be sure to have a spotter with you for safety.  Practice front rolls, back rolls, cartwheels, and round-offs and hand springs as these are fundamental in many cheerleading dance routines.

When you have your cheerleading music that is intended for a particular routine then practice your routine often.  It is a good idea to practice with another squad member so that you become accustomed to working your moves together in rhythm.
